Ghana Judicial scandal: Anas lured judges into corruption - Fmr. State Attorney
Former Senior State Attorney, Augustine Obour is accusing Ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas for luring the 34 judges implicated in his latest investigative piece. He said inasmuch as Anas is obliged to carry on his duties as an investigative journalist, he does not have the right to invade in people’s privacy. Lawyer Augustine Obour made the comment on Adom FM’s morning show ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Wednesday while reacting to the yet to be aired investigative piece by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, revealing deep seated corruption in the Judiciary with top judges receiving bribes.
He indicatated that evidence should be proved beyond reasonable doubt that the judges named actually had the intent to collect bribes. “Anas has used his profession to lure the judges and so if situations like that is to be investigated, they need to prove that indeed their (judges) corrupt acts was intentional or not” he stated.
Anas Aremeyaw Anas in a yet-to-be released video filmed more than 30 judges and about 100 court officials taking bribes. Some of the indicted judges have tendered in their resignation letters and also handed over official vehicles in a bid to avoid the imminent embarrassment, but the judicial council has reportedly rejected their letters.
Others are also reported to making attempts to secure an injunction to stop the documentary from being aired. Justice Obimpe and Justice Charles Quist are reported to have collapsed after they were summoned by the Judiciary Council after it received a petition from Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
One of them collapsed upon seeing the video; the other suffered a mild stroke as a result. But the criminal lawyer, Augustine Obour posited that, the investigations brought out by the ace journalist are always not given much attention at the end of every trial because ‘he has been forcing people into doing things beyond their control’. “I can assure you that if this matter is taken to court, the journalist might lose his case because his investigation is not genuine” he asserted.
