Ghana National Bank used to be First National Bank. The name was transformed to Ghana National Bank on September 18, 2014. Since then, it changed it status from a Savings and Loans Company which was First National Savings and Loans to a Universal Bank. They also changed their logo to suit their new Bank Name. Like the Consolidated Bank of Ghana, GN also offers Foreign Exchange services, personal and business loan services, international remittances, and digital platforms to engage online customers for easier transactions.
Ghana National Bank had a client base of around 500,000. The sudden rise of their clientele is perhaps due to their impeccable objective which is to set up facilities for the ordinary Ghanaian by introducing products to workers, traders, professionals, and the micro-industry like small and medium entrepreneurs and businesses.
The Current State of Ghana National Bank
On April 17th, 2018, Ghana National Bank and other indigenous banks in Ghana formed a committee to submit a report on the 26th of May 2018 to the president about a petition.
This petition voiced out an out of norm policy issued by the Bank of Ghana. They described in the 11-page petition asking the Government to explain why they were given the same deadline as other foreign Banks for coming out with a GHS 400 Million minimum capital requirement.
